This thirty pan palette encased in sleek gold packaging contains a beautiful range of matte, shimmery and sheeny shadows in gorgeous neutral and deep jewel tones.

A lot of the drugstore eyeshadow palettes tend to be inspired by higher end palettes. I love that this eyeshadow palette stands out on it's own and is such a perfect blend of very wearable neutral shades and more interesting deep blue, green and purple tones.

I've had this for a few months now and it's seen a lot of use. First up the eyeshadow quality is great; most of the shades are really well pigmented and smooth though there are a few that give off less colour, none of these are chalky.

As I've said, the colour range is wonderful. There are a ton of warm golden neutrals that I love using every day. Glimmer is a gorgeous all over the lid wash that works really well as an everyday neutral. I use a mixture of Buffer, Latte and sometimes Caffeine Fix to define my crease; there are all beautiful matte browns. Ice Cloud and New World are two beautiful white champagne highlights. Blacqua and Caffeine Fix are also perfect for using as powder eyeliner.

When I'm feeling more colour there are some beautiful peachy and pink shades for something that's still very soft, or for something more smokey, all of the shades in the right side of the palette are perfect. I especially love the greens as they stand out amongst the rest of my eyeshadow collection. Sunset Hour and SUper Gold also deserve a mention as stunning golden shimmers, beautifully pigmented and perfect for a bronze summer makeup look.

In terms of packaging; I love the gold colour and design on the front but after using it for a while the text and design are fading a lot. That said there haven't been any cracks in the plastic which can happen with cheaper palettes. I also absolutely love the gigantic mirror in this palette. For this reason it's perfect for travelling with. While it's not the most compact eyeshadow palette, it is slim and will save you packing a separate mirror if you need one.

Overall I love the Makeup Revolution Fortune Favours the Brave eyeshadow palette. The eyeshadows are all beautiful in colour, texture and pigment and the whole palette works for anything from an easy go to everyday look to a heavy on the smoke and shimmer bold eye. Have I mentioned yet that this palette is only £10, for thirty shadows. If you want to build up your eyeshadow collection quickly I couldn't recommend this enough. It has everything you need.

Makeup Revolution Fortune Favours the Brave eyeshadow palette, £9.99

*Please note that my palette contains two Peachy shades instead of Hope. I contacted Makeup Revolution about this and they were quick to give me a full refund.

I recently picked up a new eye cream to replace Pai's Echium & Argan Gentle Eye Cream, which I liked but wasn't wowed by. I opted for something cheaper but still offering me hydrating and mostly natural ingredients; the Boots Botanics Hydrating Eye Serum, Tripple Age Renewal.
Eye creams are tough. I know I need to use one but in reality, at 23 I don't often see a difference when I use one.

I've had the Botanics Hydrating Eye Serum for a month or so now and I have definitely enjoyed using it. The formula applies really easily to the eye, sinking in quickly but not immediately to the point where you wonder if you applied enough product.

Although it's called a serum I don't think it's too thin. I have dry eyes and like something that feels hydrating on application and sits well under skincare and makeup. The Botanics Hydrating Eye Serum does this well.

Ive found the eye cream to be moisturising and now that I'm thinking about it perhaps the fine lines under my eyes have lessened a bit. I do feel like my undereye circles have been looking better recently but that could however just be down to a change in the weather or a number of other factors.

I will say that I haven't missed the Pai Echium & Argan Gentle Eye Cream. The Boots Botanics Hydrating Eye Serum is a very good cheaper alternative and I would recommend it but don't expect the world fromantic an eye cream that's under £30.
L'Oreal's Lumi Magique concealer promises to brighten eyes and conceal imperfections as well as highlight areas of the face. I have some fairly noticeable eyebags so thought that this would be perfect for me.

Unfortunately this didn't work at all. I found the formula so difficult to blend, it just sat on top of the skin while somehow exaggerating every crease and dry patch. I didn't find it to be concealing at all it just felt like a sheer pigment that didn't go anything for me.

It sat a little better on other areas of my face but as it didn't appear to highlight I haven't found myself reaching for it. This could be partially as it's too light for my super pale skin, but the fomula is so lacklustre I wouldn't go out and buy a lighter shade if there was one.

Overall this is just something that I am disappointed by everytime I reach for it. It's a shame because I love the idea and the packaging is gorgeous, but it just isn't one for me.
I love purple eyeshadows. They are an easy way to wear colour and I find that purple tones really bring out the green colours in my eyes. It can be hard though, to find good purple eyeshadows, particularly on the highstreet. So I was really pelased to pick up this little affordable eyeshadow palette from Collection.

The colour range in this palette is brilliant. With a white highlight perfect for the inner corner, brow bone or for adding light to the centre of the lid. The second shade is a stunning lilac that looks almost iridescent. Two mid-toned purples one cooler one warm and bright give you flexibility with the colour. Finally two dark tones let you line your eyes or smoke it out.

As you can se from the above image, these are well pigmeted and swatch beautifully. Most of the shades work really well on the lid especially the light lilac shade. Unfortunately, as I often find with purple shadows, when blended out a little they look murky and lose the purple tones.

That said I have managed to build up a gorgeous purple smokey eye with these eyeshadows and actually I still think this is a great palette.

If purple isn't your thing, I've tried some more of the Collection Smokey eyeshadow palettes and found them all to be great. They're such a good buy and perfect for travel.
I'm always on the hunt for a nourishing conditioner for my dry ends. I love using natural formulas as I find that they tend to be very nourishing.
I was excited then to see a new natural haircare range in my local boots. Especially with such sweet packaging. I picked up Kind Natured's Colour Care Coconut and Shea conditoner. My hair isn't coloured but I love coconut and shea on my hair and looking at the ingredients list this looked like the most nourishing formula.

Either I as wrong there or these conditioners aren't very nourishing at all. I've used up the whole bottle of this conditioner and while at first I thought it was just a bit lacklustre, I think now that using it for seveal months has reduced the condition of my hair.

On application this has a weird waxy feeling, that feels as if it's not really penetrating the hair. It isn't thick; on the hands it feels like any other conditoner until you try to apply it to the hair. I tried towel drying my ends before I put this on but it didn't make much difference

After washing my hair was lightweight as usual but didn't feel very well nourished. Perhaps I chose the wrong formula but coloured hair tends to be dry and brittle so I had thought this would be great for my dry ends. I've used the bottle up but I won't be repurchasing and don't think I will try anything else from the range.
Since I picked up the original Rosie for Autograph fragrance a year or so ago, I have been reaching for it on the daily. So when I heard there was a new Rosie for Autograph fragrance that 'Summer Rose' I knew I would love it.

While the oroginal Rosie foe Autograph lerfume is a simple (but beautiful) rosa centifolia scent, Summer Rose is a lot more green and fresh.

The top notes are fruity with fresh pear and blackcurrant. The heart is made up of red rose centifolia, jasmine and lily of the valley. Finally the base notes are sandalwood, moss and musk.

I don't pick up on the blackcurrant at all and while there is a hint of musky base the overall scent is very green, fresh and floral. It's nice and sharp when first applied but becomes a little more subdued as it warms to the skin.

I don't think it's a very strong rose scent, I pick up more on the lily of the valley but this makes it a different perfume to most that I own - I really like rose!
I still love the original Rosie for Autograph fragrance whish is a lot softer and a little more sweet. The new Rosie for Autograph Summer Rose is beautiful too and a perfect fresh scent for summer. It's well worth a spritz if your in a Marks and Spencer and at £14 for 30ml it's really a bargain.
When I'm searching for a summer SPF I look for something with a high protection from both UVA and UVB rays. No7's Protect & Perfect Intense Facial Sun Protection SPF50 fits the bill.

As it's from Boots it falls under their UVA protection rating and offers very high broad spectrum protection. Lots of sun protection products offer broad spectrum but it can be hard to tell how much UVA protection a procduct is providing, thankfully it seems like brands are getting better as the public becomes more aware of the need for sun protection.

Back to the product in question, the Protect & Perfect Intense Facial Sun Protection offers SPF50 and a five star UVA rating so should keep you from burning on holiday but also protect your skin from high UVA rays on the daily throughout the summer in the UK or wherever you may be.

Given the high protection this is perhaps not surprisingly a very thick white cream. It has a bit of a white cast but once blended well I don't think it is too bad, though I am very pale. It is however pretty greasy and thick. It certainly doesn't dry down and does somewhat sit on the skin.

I frequently wear this under makeup and I don't find it's too greasy as a base but being dry skinned I usually opt for something with a bit of slip. Even so I do find I have to be careful when applying powder products on top of this as they can ball up a bit on the skin.

Overall I'm not a huge fan of this facial suncream. While I appreciate the high factor sun protection I know that there are better formula's available. I would opt for La Roche-Posay's Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid, on offer at the moment on Escentual and at Boots.

Shimmer bricks are such a wonderful multi use product. They work as a highlight, bronzer, eyeshadow and even a sheen blush if the formula is right. I picked up this pretty pink toned shimmer brick from Seventeen a month ago when they had a buy one get one half off offer.

In the pan there are four gorgeous rose gold highlight shades. The last swatch in the image above is the four colours together. Each colour is well pigmented and very shimmery. They give off a nice highlight sheen but there is some detectable glitter so one to be weary of if wearing in sunlight.

The formula is oddly a bit stiff, it feels hard in the pan rather than creamy like a lot of good powder formulas I have. That said it is well pigmented and applies well, it just is perhaps a tiny bit chalky.

The real let down for me is the colour. While I love the beautiful rose gold highlight tones, they are far too dark for my super pale skin. I think that as a highlight palette this would work well for somebody with darker skin.

I can still use this shimmer brick as eyeshadow and if I'm feeling adventurous I'll reach for the lightest shade as a warm highlight but it's not a formula I would write home about so perhaps it's one to skip. Makeup revolutions shimmer brick packs much more of a punch!
I love the idea of eyeshadow sticks. A quick and easy product that helps to create a one step makeup look. Build up a smokey eye in seconds. Unfortunately so many of the eyeshadow sticks or eyeshadow pencils that I've tried end up looking crease, too sheer and rough in texture on the lid.

I picked up three of the Topshop shadow sticks in a gift set and was excited to Tey out the gorgeous metallic shades. A peak nude, a champagne shimmer and a deep chocolate bronze.

These swatch ok and are nicely pigmented. The lighter shades have a beautiful metallic shimmer while the brown is a little less shimmery but not matte.

Unfortunately when applied to the eyes these were pretty awful. While the formula is creamy enough it applied very patchy and sat on the skin rather than blending in. When blending out the product looked smudge and uneven. I can't comment on the lasting power because I haven't worn these enough to test it out.

These are issues I've had with similar product before so I'm not surprised. I think I may just be very picky with cream eyeshadow formulas, I'm looking for something smooth and blend able with an even pigment that sets down.

I love the No7 Shade and Define sticks, they're brilliantly smooth and long wearing. I would recommend those over the Topshop Smoke Sticks any day.

I've been on the hunt for some of the matte dusty pink/nudes that have been so popular in the last few months. So when I spotted these adorable little matte lip crayons from Soap and Glory I snapped them up.

The Sexy Mother Pucker Matte-Lip crayons are priced at just £3.50 and are a really great way to build up a matte lip wardrobe without wasting money or product. I chose the shades Pretty Muted, a pretty light rose toned pink, and Chocoberry, a deep brown rosy nude.

Both shades have a smooth, slightly slippy texture when applied to the lips. This means that while the look matte they don't emphasize cracks or dry patches on your lips and don't dry them out either. The lipstick shaped bullet makes for really easy application.

The crayons are well pigmented and build up very quickly to a strong opaque colour on the lips. I find that Chocoberry is a little more stiff in formula and closer to a standard lipstick texture. This works in it's favour as it's darker and needs a more precise application.

In terms of lasting power, they're pretty average. If you aren't eating or drinking the colour will last a few hours, leaving behind a slight stain. If you are eating, they will disappear pretty quickly and they do transfer. That said although they're comfortable, they aren't a 'slippery' lipstick in the way that some will just slide over your mouth and leave you constantly terrified that you look like Miranda Sings.

They aren't scented so should please everyone. I like the packaging, it's small and subtle. These don't need sharpening and I like that the plastic matches the colour of the lipstick. My only complaint is that the amount of product in these is tiny, which is fine as they are so inexpensive, however I feel like the whole stick could be about half the size that it is. I hate wasted packaging!

Despite my pet peeve for oversized packaging, these are brilliant little matte lip crayons with a beautiful shade range. If you're looking for an easy matte red I bet that Ember Red would be gorgeous.

I have so many neutral eyeshadow palettes now, that I'm really spoilt for choice when I sit down to apply my makeup. Recently though I've really been reaching for the Makeup Revolution Girls On Film palette.

I took this away with me for a weeks holiday because I thought it offered a great range of shimmery and matte neutral shadows and I'm so glad I did. all of the shadows are really well pigmented, bendable and have a pretty good lasting power. I love the wide range of neutral shades. There are cool minky nudes, warm coppery golds and even some purple shadows.

The shade second in on the top row is absolutely gorgeous applied as a wash over the lid. I also love the creamy pink shade on the top left; it's a lovely sheeny shadow that's not shimmery but not matte either so works well as a subtle highlight on the inner corner or under the browbone.

I appreciate the matte browns which are perfect for blending out the crease. The darkest matte I like to use as a soft liner and it's perfect for this because it's really well pigmented.

The packaging is pretty basic and the closure has broken a bit as the plastic is cheap. But I love the large mirror which is great for travel. At £6 for 18 high quality neutral eyeshadows, it's pretty hard to complain.
Protecting your skin from the sun is so important and thankfully sun protection seems to be becoming more popular amongst cosmetic brands. That said, it can still be hard to track down a daily moisturiser with a good broad spectrum protection. La Roche-Posay's Hydraphase UV Intense Legere has answered my praise with a lightweight formula and broad spectrum protection.

The formula is lightweight and sinks into the skin quickly. This is great when I want to apply makeup on top and for sunnier days when I want to layer up with a higher SPF. I also love that it comes in a pump bottle, keeping the product stable and making my morning routine eaiser.

The formula isn't greasy and doesn't leave you with a white cast. A real bonus for me is that this contains hyaluronic acid, which helps to hydrate my dry and dehydrated skin throughout my long days commuting in and out of London.

Overall this is a great daily SPF moisturiser. It offers an SPF of 20 and good UVA protection too. La Roche-Posay is really great for broad spectrum sun protection. It's so handy to have something broad spectrum that's lightweight and easy to apply in the morning. And as it gets sunnier I find that this layers really well under my heavy duty SPF50 sun creams because it sinks into the skin so quickly.

I'm a sweet breakfast kinda gal. As much as I love saussages, beans and eggs, I'm never craving a full English for breakfast. I'd rather have waffles, chocolate cereal or a big stack of pancakes! This recipe is one that I've used for more than 5 years and I always come back to it.

I use this BBC Food recipe and mostly stick to it but I have a few tricks and I usually do double the amount because I eat a lot of pancakes! (Also I usually cook for three, if you're cooking for one definitely do half of the recipe below.

You will need
9 1/2 oz Plain Flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp caster sugar
9floz almond milk (or milk of choice)
2 large eggs, split
2 tbsp melted butter
1tsp vanilla extract

Method

Melt your butter in the frying pan on the hob.

Measure your dry ingredients and mix well.

In a separate bowl whisk up your two egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Set aside.

Add your egg yolks to the dry ingredients and mix into the dry with an electric whisk while slowly pouring in the milk. Pour in the melted butter and whisk again to combine.

Once well mixed, add a little of the whisked whites mixture and fold in to loosen the mixture. Once mixed, gently fold in the rest of the whites.

When your pancake batter is ready, spoon gently onto the hob into 5 inch circles.

Once the batter bubbles your pancake is ready to flip, the underside should be golden.

These are best served immediately but if you want a stack you can set them in a tray in a very low oven to keep warm while you cook patches of pancakes. While I'm all for a thin English pancake sometimes I want something more substantial. The whisked egg whites really give these pancakes a gorgeously fluffy texture. The melted butter adds flavour and a little crisipness to the edges.

I love to serve my pancakes with thick golden syrup, a little butter, and an array of different sweet spreads. Toffee sauce, chocolate sauce, chocolate spread, lotus biscoff spread and even rum butter pair brilliantly with these fluffy american pancakes.
I love solid perfumes; they seem to have a more gentle scent than most perfumes and are of course perfect for travelling with. Unfortunately they can be hard to find but I think they are becoming more popular on the high street. I recently purchased two Le Soft Perfumes; Parisian Rhapsody and Etre Ici Et Ailleurs from Sabe Masson and I think they're great.

Both have a base of mango butter and tamanu oil which are moisturising on the skin. You may not care about hydrating your inner wrists or neck but in theory the moisturising properties should help with longevity. They apply smoothly but don't leave a greasy residue.

Both of the scents I chose are similarly soft florals with notes of vanilla and musk.
Parisian Rhapsody: Top Notes: Orange, Red Fruit Heart Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Nutmeg Base Notes: Coumarin, Vanilla, Musk
Etre Ici Et Ailleurs: Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Orange Heart Notes: Iris, Heliotrope, Tuberose, Daffodil Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Amber, Musk

I think I prefer Parisian Rhapsody overall, it has most of my favourite notes; rose, jasmine and vanilla, but Etre Ici Et Ailleurs is equally lovely.

Le Soft Perfumes have the sweetest packaging! It's practical too, the cardboard is lightweight but hardy and the solid perfume twists up for easy application. The formula is quite hard but they are strongly scented so this helps to apply only a small amount at a time and means that they will last well. My only niggle here would be that though the packaging is pretty great, and there is a decent amount of product, like many cosmetics, twist up the product and you'll find that it could have been housed in something far smaller.

I've been reaching for these loads in the last month or two. They are wonderful little solid perfumes which kick of beautiful, well lasting scent. I'm very impressed and am already lusting over some of the newer scents. I bought mine from Escentual but it looks like they may no longer be stocking them.

I love a felt tip liner for quick and easy liner application and this one from Soap and Glory has been my faithful friend for years now. There are a bunch of great options on the highstreet now but not all are made equal.

Soap and Glory's Supercat Eyeliner is a gorgeously pigmented formula. It's very black and dries to a semi matt finish - it's not glossy but it isn't matte either, which I personally really like. It lasts well on me and though it will wash away a little at the wing if I'm tearing up it does a far better job than some other felt tip liners I've tried.

What I really love about the formula though is that it's quite wet. It doesn't bleed and it's easy to use but there is always plenty of product on the applicator. For this reason it applies monthly and seems to last absolutely ages! It's also buildable (not that you need to build it) in the sense that if you're thickening your line you can apply on top of previous strokes and it won't disrupt the liner as some similar products will.

There's nothing too special about the felt tip but it's a nice length and thickness making it very easy to apply. I also like that the lid has a nice click stopping the product from drying out.

I've tried plenty of others but I always come back to this for it's pigmented and smooth formula. At only £6 this is a massive bargain.

While I love using a powder on my brows for a natural and full shape, and I reach for a brow mascara when I really want to pump up the volume, day to day I always reach for a pencil because nothing builds up shape and quickly defines like an eyebrow pencil. L'Oreal's Brow Artiste Shaper in Brunette has been my brow pencil of choice for a year or so now and I've repurchased it over and over.

Looking first at the coloured side of this brow duo, I love the dry formula of the pencil. It applies smoothly and doesn't drag but it has a slightly dry, hard formula which means that each individual stroke you make stays sharp.

All that said, this is a well pigmented pencil. It quickly lets you build up faux brow hairs, filling in any gaps and defining your shape in a jiffy (aka the 30s I have reserved to do my eyebrows before the morning commute).

Colourwise, this is a pretty good match for me, it blends in really well with my eyebrow colour. If I could I would have it a tiny bit more on the taupe side as when blended it can lean a little warmer. Overall though it's a great match for me and I've not found anything better on the hightstreet.

Moving onto the other end of the pencil, there's a clear 'fix & finish wax'. Honestly I don't get much use out of this. It does help give a little natural looking hold to my brows but they are so unruly (despite being fine) that most brow mascaras struggle to hold them down so this wax has no hope. If you have tamer brows though you might like this.

Because the coloured pencil is well pigmented and hard, it lasts me long enough to keep buying the pencil even if I'm not keen on the other side. Overall I love this and reach for it most days. Even if I am going in with a powder I will use this to fill in my arches as it lasts longer and applies sharper than a powder.

In a recent Makeup Revolution order, I picked up this gorgeous shimmer brick for just £3. I don't own any other shimmer bricks and couldn't say no to the gorgeous golden shimmers for such a low price.

The powders in this little five colour pan are all beautifully pigmented and smooth. They've very sheeny but actually don't pack too much glitter, especially for a highstreet palette which makes this a very wearable highlight.

I like to dust on the top two lightest shades, or the gorgeous nude peach shade, fourth down in the pan. These give a beautiful warm highlight on my pale skin and are buildable from something subtle to something stunning.
The more golden shades are too dark for me but make gorgeous eyeshadows. I'm packing this with me for a week away and plan to use it as a highlighter and shadow palette.

If I want to take my highlighter further and get a really intense natural dewy glow, I dab a little facial oil on top. I talked more about that in this dewy and glowing: highlighting tip post.

I can't recommend this enough. It's perfect if you're looking for a very affordable highlighter that won't leave you sparkling like Edward Cullen.
I have been using Benefit's Tinted Lash Primer for a couple of months now and I really like it on its own as a low key brown mascara. It's perfect for the office and quick, easy makeup routines. Certainly a lighter formula than the original They're Real mascara but it still adds a good amount of length and definition.

I realised recently that I'd never actually used it as a lash primer so I gave it a roll with Benefits Roller Lash.

First up, I do like Roller Lash but even though I'm a couple of months into this sample size tube, I find I always have to take a lot of extra product off the brush before I apply. Otherwise I'm left with crazy amounts of product and struggle to get an even natural appearance.

So I applied a light coat of the Tinted Lash Primer on each eye before going in with Roller Lash. I was quite impressed, I was prepared to dislike the effect because I really like natural and defined lashes, but actually this worked at giving a little extra volume and oomph to my lashes without adding extra clump.

I'm a fan, but it's not something that I've been doing everyday. I'm sticking to the lash primer on it's own and breaking out Roller Lash at the weekend!
This little step helps my highlight look really natural and dewy.
I begin by applying my highlighter as normal; brushing across the cheek and browbones, a little on the nose and the cupids bow. At the moment I'm using this great little highlighting shimmer brick from affordable brand, Makeup Revolution. It's a really pretty highlight that is actually one of the less glittery powders on the highstreet, but still very intense. Review coming soon!Once I've applied my highlight, I've been taking a tiny bit of facial oil on my fingertips and dabbing it on top of my cheekbones. This helps add shine without glitter and blends the highlighting powder seamlessly into the skin. As I said, I tread lightly applying only a little at a time! I love this rosehip oil from Pai but you could really use anything as it's on top of your makeup and won't really be benefiting your skin. I imagine a little coconut oil might work. I love this step and it looks great with summery natural makeup. I would say that this works best over a light base as the oil will disrupt foundation. I don't apply foundation to my cheekbones so I don't have any issues. What do you think, I would love to hear if anybody tries this highlighting tip out! Please also share any other highlighting tricks you might have. Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick, £3, Pai Rosehip Oil, £22Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14010423901647723097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4421438376331138627.post-90939783351076073632016-03-30T07:08:00.000+01:002016-03-30T07:08:10.665+01:00Origins Out of Trouble mask

I am a mask addict. There's nothing better to perk up the skin and erase a multitude of skin sins than a great mask. This one from Origins I actually picked up accidentally but I have grown to love it and reach for it whenever my skin feels 'off'.

This clay mask is actually aimed at oily to combination skin and claims to 'sop up oily-shine, slough off sticky, dead cells, and sweep away irksome debris'. This mask has a fairly standard clay texture but is a little looser than some with a sort of whipped feeling. The first thing I noticed when using it was the smell, which I cannot recommend, it smells like something you should be grouting your tiles with not putting on your face. It also has an odd tingly minty feeling that leaves your face feeling fresh and cold for a little while after use.

That said, the results are actually brilliant. I tend to use this when my skin texture is a little rough and oily and whenever I feel suspect bumps that threaten to turn into spots. I always find that my skin is left looking clearer, brighter and tighter (but not dry). There's something in this mask that just seems to reset my skin when it's feeling clogged and tired.

Overall I love Origins Out of Trouble, it's a brilliant clearing mask that I fit into my skincare routine on the regular. I would warn anybody with dry skin to use this with caution but I have very dry skin and don't find that it dries mine out at all.
I love it when a magazine offers some great beauty freebies with an issue and the April 2016 UK Glamour magazine has some seriously wonderful Balance Me products on offer. The month is nearly over so I wanted to mention how brilliant some of these products are.

I am already in love with the Radiance Face Mask. This brightening cream mask contains walnut shells which help to exfoliate your skin as you apply. You only need to keep this mask on for around 5 minutes which I love because I can apply it in the early hours of the morning before I shower and brush my teeth and wash it off as the last step of my morning cleanse. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and helps to diminish redness and scarring while brightening my overall skin tone. This radiance mask gets a big thumbs up from be.

Unfortunately the Tinted Wonder Eye Cream left me pretty disappointed. I was hoping for a lightly tinted eye cream that would help perk me up on no-makeup days. This cream however is very orange and very hard to blend. It's almost impossible to get a smooth finish to this, even with a beauty blender and I feel as if this product is surely designed to help cut down your beauty regime so should be very easy to apply. It doesn't brighten my eyes and the few times I have used it it didn't leave my eyes feeling any better either.

There are two more beauty bits to pick up from this months Glamour magazine. A hand and body wash I haven't tried but I love some other body washes from Balance Me so it's sure to be a great. There is also a tinted lip balm which I've tried in the past and liked. These tend to be very sheer but contain brilliant ingredients and smell gorgeous so are worth picking up if that sounds like your jam.

Glamour is only £2 so it's definitely worth heading out to pick up some of these wonderful Glamour freebies before the month is out. I think I'll be heading out to grab another Radiance Face Mask!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14010423901647723097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4421438376331138627.post-83147038480024673732016-03-27T11:20:00.000+01:002016-03-27T11:20:05.315+01:00Happy Easter!

I had some poorly timed illness yesterday so unfortunately will not be gorging myself on as many chocolate flavoured things as possible. I've even been put off the above monstrous tower of chocolate cake but I'm hoping that I will fit in some roast dinner this evening.

If you're interested, I used Mary Berry's chocolate fudge cake recipe which is my absolute favourite for a quick and easy moist chocolate cake. It pars well with a chocolate ganache or vanilla whipped cream or both as I did with the above.

The Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector has long been hailed as one of the best lip glosses you can buy. It's actually described as a textured 'lip gel' by Clarins and claims to leave your lips looking 'soft, smooth, shiny and plump'.

I've been using shade no. 5 Candy Shimmer for the last few weeks and I can tell you now, it is as beautiful as you would hope it to be.

Firstly this smells good enough to eat. I personally adore a sweet vanillery scent in lip products and this is exactly that. It has a soft balmy formula that leaves the lips really hydrated and glossy but not sticky and not as if a tube of vaseline has exploded onto your lips.

In terms of colour, it is pretty sheer. This shade helps to smooth out your lips and adds a very subtle pink tone which works well for the everyday or to balance out a heavy eye.I love the way that the product comes out of the nine tiny holes in the applicator to produce a little square of balm on the soft cushion. The soft fluffy applicator does work well to apply the product and feels nice on the lips but does worry me in terms of hygiene. I also worry that it would immediately stain if you used this on top of a lipstick.

For me this is a beautiful product that I am really enjoying using. It is seriously lovely to apply and is a nice product to have in my collection. At £18, you could easily find a tinted balm that would do the job just as well. Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks for example are gorgeous and pack more colour for £3.50. However, they definitely aren't as pleasing to use, are slightly less hydrating and don't look as beautiful sitting on your vanity. You also get a generous 12ml of product in the lip perfectors. So if you have enough disposable income and love the idea of a sheer balmy gloss, then the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors might just be perfect for you.
I love using serums; they are a great step to slot in between eye creams and moisturisers to add a little skin boost. It can be hard to find a good cheap serum so I wanted to mention two brilliant and affordable serums that I love.

First up is Superdrug's Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 moisturiser and serum. I love the Naturally Radiant range as a whole and also enjoy using the mask and hot cloth cleanser. It might call itself a 'moisturiser and serum' but for my dry skin this is not hydrating enough to be a moisturiser alone. I like to use it as the last step of my skincare before I apply my moisturiser and I prefer using it overnight.

This is a nice light gel texture that sweeps over skin easily. I've found that the fruit acids in this help to brighten my skin and helps to fade any scarring I have from past blemishes. It doesn't give you instant results like some masks can but is a nice little extra boost which is great for something you can pick up for just £2.95 while it's on offer!

Next up, I feel like a hydrating serum is an essential in my skincare routine and this one from Simply Pure at Superdrug is lovely especially given it's £2.69 price tag. The ingredients are quite impressive and include glycerin, lactic acid (an AHA), and everybody's favourite hydrating hyaluronic acid. Take a look at a detailed rundown of the ingredients on Clemmie's Big Sister's blog post.

I use this morning and night and it's helped me keep hydrated throughout the changing seasons; a time when I usually find my skin feeling sensitive and dry. Again, it isn't magic and won't instantly cure any dehydration but does help keep skin soft and plump and really is very impressive for it's extremely low price. It's also very popular and is frequently out of stock on the shelves so if you spot one, grab it!

Both of these are great buys and are worth checking out if you think they might work well for your own skin. I love that they are such inexpensive skincare buys with unassuming packaging (though I do appreciate that they both have a pump) and impressive ingredients lists.

It's worth noting that both serums contain chemical exfoliators so should be used in conjunction with a daily SPF - but if you're looking after your skin you should really be wearing sun protection daily anyway.
The Clarins Instant Eye Make-up Remover is a bi-phase liquid cleanser designed to take off waterproof and heavy makeup. It's heavily raved about especially by the wonderful beauty duo that are Vivianna and Lily Pebbles. But at £20 a bottle, is it worth the hype?

I'm pretty loyal to my micellar waters and rarely wear waterproof mascara's mainly because they are so darn hard to remove. But I picked up a little bottle of this makeup remover at a Beautychat Live event with Clarins a few weeks ago and I've been trialling it since.

This little blend of oil and water contains camomile extract, rose and cornflower waters, and sits as two blue and white liquids that need to be shaken well before applying to a cotton pad and sweeping over the eyes.

First up, this smells lovely. There's a beautiful subtle, clean and slightly fresh floral scent that you won't find in any highstreet skincare. Once it's shaken up and on a cotton pad it's a pale blue colour and feels slightly oily when swept across the skin. I like to apply a generous amount and hold it onto one eye at a time to skin in before I gently move it around.

It isn't a one sweep and you're done magic remover but it did do a better job at removing heavy makeup than my usuall Garnier micellar water. I tried this out on strong liner days when I was wearing Benefit's Rollerlash and it did remove it fairly easily but still required some rubbing to get off all traces of mascara.

A slight issue I had with this is that I like to really saturate a cotton pad to remove my makeup but this formula tended to immediately run into my eyes even when I shut them tight. It didn't sting at all but I wasn't too happy to have foreign chemicals run into my eyes so I ended up using less product which meant rubbing my eyes a bit more. This isn't a problem I have with micellar waters, I think it could be because this was a little more oily than I'm used to.

My other problem with this is that it didn't wow me. It was more effective than my micellar water but my Garnier micellar water isn't marketed at removing waterproof or heavy makeup, it just does it anyway. As the Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover claims to 'instantly lift away every last trace of make-up' and is £19 for 125 ml I was hoping for slightly more magical things.

Overall this is a nice product to use, and it might impress you more if you do struggle to remove waterproof mascaras. It left my skin feeling nice and soft but I would always follow this kind of product with another cleanse so I don't expect any skincare benefits to work wonders in the short time this might be on my skin.
